Insurance FAQ

1. What is Ship Insurance?
Insurance ensures your ship is replaced if destroyed or stolen. During Alpha, all ships include basic insurance with no upkeep. In Star Citizen 1.0, players can purchase in-game insurance covering various levels: from base hull to custom components and decorations.
2. Insurance Levels
  • Level 1 (Basic): Covers ship hull and original components. Included in all pledge ships and Alpha testing.
  • Level 2 (Future): Adds coverage for custom components. Purchasable in-game post-1.0.
  • Level 3 (Future): Adds coverage for ship decorations on top of Level 2.
  • LTI (Lifetime Insurance): Exclusive to select pledges. Permanent coverage for base components, no renewal needed.
3. Filing an Insurance Claim
Use an ASOP terminal to file a claim on a destroyed or lost ship. You can pay to expedite the replacement. If bugs occur, try switching server regions or restarting the game session.
4. Upgrades & Customization

Insurance behaves as follows when modifying ships:

  • - Upgrades: Your insurance remains unless the upgrade includes a longer-duration plan.
  • - Customization: Equipment/loadouts are restored during claims, unless the ship is upgraded to a new base variant.
5. Insurance Duration & Activation
Time-based pledge insurance (e.g. 3/6/12 months) only activates once the game exits Alpha. All website-attributed pledge ships have permanent chassis warranties: they can always be recovered, even without active insurance.
6. In-Game Insurance in Star Citizen 1.0
Ships acquired in-game will require purchased insurance (UEC). Without it, they are lost permanently. Add-on warranties (earned in-game) allow you to recover assets instead of just receiving credit value.
7. Warranties Explained
Warranties are a new mechanic introduced with Star Citizen 1.0. They ensure that when a ship is destroyed and insured, you receive the actual ship and components back — not just their credit value.

  • - Automatic Website Warranty: All pledge ships purchased via the RSI website include a permanent warranty for chassis and stock components. These ships can always be recovered.
  • - Earnable Warranties: In-game ships can be granted warranties through gameplay. These can apply to the chassis, components, or decorations, depending on level.
  • - Warranty vs. Insurance: Insurance pays out credits (UEC), but warranties let you get the actual item back — saving time and effort in rebuilding.
  • - Stackable: Warranties and insurance levels are additive. Upgrading to Level 2 or 3 insurance does not remove existing warranties or base insurance.
